"Ah, but don't worry, pray to the Celestial Ministry of Earth and make a coin donation and you'll receive this amulet which will protect you from diseases!"

The Emperor really needs to deal with the Celestial Ministry.

Incorrect. Cantha is referenced numerous times as being the land of the south or across the great sea to the south. etc etc.

Anyway, anybody who has read up on GW:EN knows that we will see at some point

A) The coast near the Magnuma Jungle
B) The Char Homeland

So we cleanse Kaineng city with fire and remove both problems. The stuff we are worried about burning gets burnt and is no longer a problem. The stuff causing the health hazards gets burnt and is also no longer a problem.

I'm don't see a downside.

The story for the intro to GW:EN says that the tunnels and entrance to new lands are revealed by a massive earthquake.
That is why I am theorizing, as others, that the reason behind the xulani storage people disappearing and (in major towns) why there is storage in new locations is that the major towns will have a starting point to the new areas.
EDIT: Net crapped out on me..here is the rest.

From an engineering standpoint, the slums are unrealistic. You can't build anything that high out of half-rotten wooden boxes and expect it to support any weight.

Much of Kaineng, particularly Nahpui Quarter, is a surreal, semi-anime style environment. Which might have worked but it does clash with the other two continents. Would have said the rest of the world, but a forest of impossibly high trees turned to stone, a sea turned to jade, and particularly the Realm of Torment are pretty surreal in themselves.

It's a fantasy game, so I guess you can expect some physically impossible stuff besides run-of-the-mill magic. Perhaps Kaineng just seems out of place because an overgrown slum city is something that you'd expect in a futuristic dystopia, not a medieval fantasy.
